Switching is not a mystery if someone tells you the steps. You keep the domain if you own it. DNS gets pointed at the new host when the new site is ready — not the day you sign. There should be no weekend of “the site is down” if the cutover is planned.
You will be asked for the basics: trade, cities, phone, photos, reviews, the jobs you want more of, the ones you do not. The faster those come back, the faster you go live. Most delays are waiting on logins, old-host access, or photos still on someone’s phone.
Content can move. It does not all have to. A clean homepage that converts is worth more than importing five years of unused pages. Redirects from old URLs to the new ones protect any search juice you already have.
Email and Google Business stay yours. A good provider does not hold the keys. You should know who owns the domain, where it is registered, and how to get out later. If they will not say, that is your answer.
Live usually means days, not a quarter, once the inputs are in. You should see the form hit your phone before you celebrate the design. The switch is done when the system works, not when the mockup looks nice.
