The Real Cost of a Missed Lead

Aug 31, 2026

A missed lead does not sit politely in a folder. The homeowner submits your form, waits, then submits two more. The first contractor who texts back books the window. Your form is now a receipt for work you will never see.

Put numbers on it, even rough ones. If an average job is $800 and you miss two qualified leads a week because nobody saw the email until morning, that is not “a slow Tuesday.” That is tens of thousands of dollars a year in work that walked to a faster company.

The cost is not only the job. It is the review you never got, the neighbor you never met, and the ad spend or SEO that paid to put that person on a page that could not finish the job.

After-hours searches are the expensive ones. Storms, dead AC, leaking lines — those do not wait for office hours. If your capture system sleeps when you sleep, you are open for the quiet leads and closed for the urgent ones.

The fix is not working 24 hours. It is getting the request on the phone you already answer, so you can reply when you can, still inside the window. Missed leads are a system problem. Treat them like one.
